Drinking From A Peanut Butter Jar!

I love the simple joy of unexpected discoveries.  Couple that discovery with a little 50s kitsch and I’m nothing short of giddy.1950s Ad

Vintage stemware is not so easy to identified.  Some of the vintage styles became classic and as a result the shape of the glass is the same today as it was mid-century or even earlier. (Although one might notice that the size of the glasses today have increased… oh dear!) My eye is always captured by patterned glass that has more of a personality reflecting the time it was manufactured.  Depression glass, pressed glass, silver and gold embellishments, certain colors and certain shapes better contribute to the sought after vintage era on the table.

After I bring a pattern home, part of the inventory process is to confirm the manufacturer and any other info I can dig up.  Sometimes this is impossible, as most stemware does not have any stamps or markings as clues.  But often, I can find an image that leads to the information I need.

I was aware that, mid-century, many households built their collections from grocery store promotions or product promotions.  But I had no idea that this footed glass could be one of them.  But it is!  These goblets were sent out in to the world by Atlas Glass, filled to the rim with Big Top peanut butter!!  Even better they were promoted with these adorable ads featuring little animal children.  Now really, what could be more charming?
