Doily Love

I am so happy to see today’s bride re-embrace the beauty and romance of a doily.  Don’t look for them sitting alone under a candy dish (or draped on the back of a chair, bless their hearts!). Now you will find doilies accenting a more contemporary vignette in a variety of creative ways.

Here is a bride/groom table design in process.  With fingers crossed and held breath, I ran these paper doilies through my Officejet printer with enough tape on the edges to prevent a paper jam.  And it worked!

And imagine my surprise when my invitation from this very bride arrived in the mail.  I had no idea she was pasting doilies across town! Creative Use Of Doilies - Invitations

If the printer is a bit too stressful for you, how about using your favorite stamp?  I used my favorite here and voila! custom themed place cards/coasters!

And don’t forget the beautiful hand crochet treasures.  My grandmother created fine hand work even after she had given up much of everything else.  My mother holds her hands the same way my grandmother did and has quite a collection herself.  I DO NOT hold my hands the same way as I am a bit, ok a lot, more uptight.  But I have squeezed a few doilies out of a skein of yarn.  And I was giddy when my daughter was sitting at my mom’s feet learning to chain and double crochet…  So needless to say, this is nostalgic for me.

And thanks to a dear friend (and client!) I have a collection of Dirty Dishes that was put together specifically for the use of a cotton crochet doily.  Using only white and ivory, these place settings are fresh and romantic.
